Meet the two 2025 residents of the very first edition of La Petite Fabrique, an international residency for African filmmakers.

Conceived as a three-step professional development program, this residency aims to support the growth of your short film project (live-action fiction), from the initial writing stage through to presenting its pitch to industry professionals as part of the Short Film Market.

Biography

Born and raised in Conakry, Guinea, N’Kony SYLLA is a screenwriter and director whose work has been shaped by the lived realities of young girls and women in her country. Since 2017, she has been creating short films with a strong social resonance, exploring pressing issues with sensitivity and commitment. In 2024, she joined the Sabou Ciné Talents program in Conakry, where she directed her debut short film, Your Husband is Your God. Today, she continues to develop new projects with the ambition of offering a cinema that is both engaged and accessible.

Second Chance

At 15, Kadi, a studious and respectful young girl, sees her world fall apart when she discovers she is pregnant by Fodé, her 16-year-old classmate. Facing social and family rejection, she comes to believe that all is lost. Yet, against the advice of those around them, her father makes an unexpected choice.

Biography

Abdoulaye SALL is a Mauritanian director and editor. After graduating in Digital Communication in 2020, he began his career making institutional films for various companies. In October 2021, he joined the Yennenga Center (Dakar, Senegal), where he specialized in film editing. His first film, Le Dernier Voyage, won the Jury Prize at the Oujda Maghreb Film Festival (Morocco). It was also screened at the African Film Festival of Lausanne (Switzerland), the Luxor African Film Festival (Egypt), Vues d’Afrique (Canada), and the Locarno Film Festival (Switzerland).

Suka Naayo

Yerel, a neighborhood shopkeeper, struggles to save Dickel, his ailing wife, and protect their son Ablaye. Caught between daily hardship, pervasive corruption, and constant humiliation, Yerel desperately searches for the money to treat his wife. In this race against time, he is ready to do anything — even defy the forbidden.
